Westminster City Council

December 19, 2006

Question written on 19/12/2006

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will respond to the Leader of Westminster City council’s request for an urgent meeting to discuss the issue of A8 nationals sleeping rough in central London.

Answered by Liam Byrne

Officials from the Home Office have met with the Department for Communities and Local Government, Westminster City council and other interested parties to discuss this issue. A positive outcome from these meetings is that the Department for Communities and Local Government has agreed to provide additional funding of 100,000 to Westminster City council to continue the work they have started in respect of A8 nationals. The Home Office is considering whether it too can provide some financial support in the 2007-08 financial year.
