Local Policing Priorities

January 14, 2008

Question written on 14/01/2008

Will the Home Secretary give credence to the idea that, where it is the settled will of a local community, we should elect police commissioners?

Answered by Jacqui Smith, Home Secretary

Some important questions need to be answered about the future of police accountability, which is precisely why we have asked Sir Ronnie Flanagan to look into that issue in his report. We expect his report soon and we will then consider what it says and other issues around local accountability as we bring forward our Green Paper.
