Question written on 05/03/2002
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions what assessment he has made of the impact of increasing the number of council tax band rates; and if he will make a statement.
Answered by Alan Whitehead
In the White Paper, “Strong Local LeadershipQuality Public Services” (CM5237), we said that we would legislate to require properties to be revalued for council tax purposes every 10 years, that work on the first revaluation would commence in 2005 and that it would be completed in time for the council tax bills issued in 2007. We said that we would listen to the views of taxpayers and local government about council tax bands and related matters.
