Mark Visits Homestart

Mark joined the Conservative candidate for Westminster North, Joanne Cash, this morning on a visit to a Home Start project in Church Street to discuss the support they offer families across Westminster.

Home Start is the UK’s leading family support charity. Through a network of more than 15 000 trained parent volunteers, the charity supports thousands of parents who are struggling to cope. Families need support for many reasons including post-natal illness, disability, bereavement, the illness of a parent or child, or social isolation.

The charity’s programme in Westminster provides vital assistance to parents facing difficult circumstances in their lives. It targets families with at least one child under the age of five, many of whom have personally asked to receive guidance and assistance.

Mark was incredibly impressed by this positive initiative and said, ‘Last year, I became a father for the first time so I know how important it is for every new parent to have a strong support network around them. Most people rely on family and friends as their lifeline but for many people without such a network, particularly those who have recently arrived in a big city like London, it is easy to feel isolated. Home Start offers vital help in those early years for new parents and can keep people afloat when they feel like they are sinking.’
