Mark Joins Sir George To Celebrate Music
April 23, 2008
Cities of London and Westminster MP, Mark Field, joined Sir George Martin and Minister for Young People, Kevin Brennan MP, this afternoon to celebrate the work of the Young Persons Concert Foundation (YPCF).
The YPCF is a unique music charity which aims to help young people appreciate and enjoy music. Since it was established in 1982, the Foundation has brought live music to over 700 000 young people throughout the UK and the YPCF’s Foundation Philharmonic Orchestra (FPO) has appeared with multi-million selling artists such as Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Eric Clapton and Sting. The FPO sends groups of its musicians into schools to perform workshops and develop children’s musical skills in the hope that a new generation will listen to the music of others and participate in the creation of music themselves.
Mark said, “As many people know, I am a huge pop fan and my love of music has shaped and enhanced my life. The YPCF’s work to instil in our young people a similar joy for music is incredibly valuable and has endless potential to enrich the lives of many children for years to come.”
