Mark & Campaigners Meet Lord Adonis
September 15, 2008
Mark helped to set up a meeting between Pimlico School campaigners and Schools Minister, Lord Adonis, this afternoon to discuss the school’s new academy status.
Pimlico School, formerly a mixed comprehensive for 11 to 19 year olds, is known for its progressive ethos and distinctive Sixties “brutalist” architecture. But it was put in special measures after it failed an inspection by Ofsted, and has since become a City Academy although the plan met fierce opposition from a group of local campaigners.
The campaigners were keen to meet Lord Adonis earlier this year to discuss their concerns but it was not until today that the meeting finally took place between Mark, a delegation from the Pimlico School Association and the Minister. Pimlico School has now opened as an academy but campaigners are still anxious about the way in which the school is governed and the level of accountability of those in charge.
Lord Adonis said he was confident that the school would be a success and says the test will be whether standards improve and parents want to send their children there.
