Discussing Local Health Concerns
September 15, 2008
Mark met Joe Hegarty, Chair, and Michael Scott, Chief Executive of Westminster Primary Care Trust, this morning to discuss health issues concerning the local area.
The PCT is currently considering plans for GP-led health centres in the borough and is also looking at ways of improving paediatric and stroke services. Mark was assured by the PCT that GP-led centres would be above and beyond the service currently provided by Westminster’s GPs and any such centre in the area would be intended to provide services seven days a week with more flexible opening hours.
Mark once again raised concerns about the standard of maternity services in the constituency and asked whether matters had improved. The PCT confirmed that it will be devoting significant resources to maternity services, in particular by investing substantially in midwifery.
Mark also wanted to know what plans there are for the future of podiatry services after several constituents got in touch about the changes to the Bessborough clinic. The PCT is currently pursuing a range of options and hopes to find a suitable centre in which to base such services shortly.
