Contact The Elderly Seeks Volunteers

Over forty years ago, local Marylebone resident, Trevor Lyttleton, set up Contact the Elderly after noticing that many of his older neighbours very rarely received visitors, leading to isolation and loneliness.

Contact the Elderly co-ordinates small groups of volunteers who use their cars to take elderly, house-bound people on regular visits to hosts’ homes one Sunday a month. The afternoon tea provides a wonderful social event for older people and there are now over 320 groups nationwide which provide a regular and vital friendship link.

Volunteers are asked to commit four hours of time a month but in return make a lasting difference to the people they help.

If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the Contact the Elderly website (www.contact-the-elderly.org), call freephone 0800 716 543 or write to 15 Henrietta Street, London, WC2E 8QG.
